Inception Workshop

On April 11, 2018, at IOTA Hotel, The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) organized inception workshop within the frames of the project – “PCB-Free Electricity Distribution in Georgia”, implemented by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its implementing United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).  National components are executed by The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC).

The overall objective of the project is to develop a management system for environmentally safe disposal of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB).

During the meeting, the attending stakeholders were introduced to the project components, methodologies and expected results and discussed the process of identifying the most efficient methods of PCB disposal.

The meeting was attended by the Unit Chief for UNIDO’s Stockholm Convention Division – Mr. Klaus Tyrkko, the First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture – Mr. Nodar Kereselidze, the Head of the Waste and Chemicals Management Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture – Mr. Alverd Chankseliani, the Deputy Head of Waste and Chemicals Management Service of Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture – Ms. Irma Gurguliani, the Head of Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management Division of Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture – Ms. Ana Berezhiani, the Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus – Ms. Sophiko Akhobadze, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour Heath and Social Affairs of Georgia, Georgian State Electrosystem, Georgian Industrial Group, JSC Telasi and Georgian International Energy Corporation (GIEC).
